Wow, do I have a lot of commenting to catch up on... the parents have dial-up.

So, I'm back and this was the least traumatic trip back to date. I suppose it gets easier each time or maybe I was dying to make sure the cat was okay and have a little (a lot) alone time. Each time I go home I realize how unique (different) my family is from others or at least from what I've heard. This definitely sounds petty and like a whiny little girl (but of course, that's what my family reduces me to usually), but my family (step-family specifically but real family sometimes) definitely values the get married, have babies, and obtain a mediocre job approach to life over any other. They are always like "um, what do you do?" if they aren't asking "you aren't married yet?" Well, I'll leave that alone. Meh.

Christmas was small this year, but I did get a new digital camera, which is all I wanted anyway. I will have to post a picture of the mummy nutcracker doll my brother got me in honor of my love of halloween. It was the most ridiculous, hilarious, best gift ever. Especially because on the base it says "2005" as if someone needed to memoralize the mummy nutcracker occassion with the year, last year.

I didn't get to see everyone I wanted to and those I did see, I didn't see for long enough. I hope some or all of you can find your way to FL at some point, but only if you make it for a Friday night 80s night. Where will everyone be this summer?

Well, the celebration is obviously a bit premature since a) I may have failed that mother-effer and b) I have an even bigger and badder test this Monday (which I will take after a weekend in Miami and a weekend of not studying). I have spent the last four hours preparing for it (and god, there is so much good Halloween t.v. on), and I still have lots to go. Of course, I know that we all gripe and moan about our work, so the point of this post is not to do that, but to say I feel like I've reached my first checkpoint, and it is really scary but rewarding all in one.

So, I'm not sure if you guys have heard about The Science of Sleep because it is apparently one of those select theater shows, but if G'ville gets it, H-burg must. Anyway, (fyi) it is from the director of Eternal Sunshine (one of my top 5 movies...prob top 3), Micheal Gondry, and it is one of those sweet, dreamy movies that you have to be nuts to love.

Well, I may not be nuts because it was a bit hard to follow (though it is adapted from a French version, so, ya know those damn French), but it was so beautiful to watch, and the graphics people among us would have to appreciate that. I really like the writer's conception of the makeup of dreams. Non verbatim quote: "a dash of a song you heard today, your work assignments, love, sex, lust, and your favorite childhood memory"...that's what dreams are made of. Not much to the love story or insight into the meaning of life (as opposed to E. Sunshine), but it was lovely like a nice fairy tale or nursery song, so see it if H-burg gets it. Rent it and save money if not.

:)

I'm remembering the

Does anyone else think Court could pass for a perfect Clementine (from Reno)?

I feel like a regular working stiff these days. Arrive at 8 am, lunch promptly at noon, curse traffic at 5 pm, etc... I'm really enjoying being apart of this therapy case I've got, and now I'm working with a dental and pharmacy student on this sort of community project where we are assigned a case (ours is an elderly lady who lives alone with oh my god SO many issues). I've started research for what will one day (*crosses fingers*) become my masters. It is just hard to figure out how to juggle everything and prioritize. Oh well. I get to come home next weekend, though! yay

I hung out with some neighbors tonight, and they had no idea who Hank Williams was/is...!! This is when I know I am too far away from home.

As bittersweet as it is, I am so looking forward to fall and orange and scary costumes and horror movies. I indulged in a scary movie Sunday yesterday. The lineup: The Exorcist (good as ever...the "version you've never seen," which included that creepy crawl downstairs), The (new) Amityville Horror, House on Haunted Hill (not as good as I remembered), and The Fog (worst new movie I've seen this year). I will miss the beginning of Halloween season without my peeps, but I will still try to be excited. I think I will come home around the 6th of Oct. Yay!

I hope Mr. M J's bday party this weekend will be mucho fun. Someone take obligatory bathroom shots with Laura for me (and post them).

In the meantime, you guys should download my new fave fun song:

The Mountain Goats: This Year
"I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me" <---- fave line

Pout. I am homesick, and NO THANKS to Target for putting out Halloween stuff so damn early. I've been told the Keys does Halloween up big time. Maybe the party should come to the sunshine state...

Does anyone watch Paula Deen's cooking show on the Food Channel? That is the quickest cure, I've found, for homesickness bc she has the best old school Southern accent ever. I dare you to say that doesn't sound like your grandmother (given your grandmother was born somewhere down here).
